FOUR CORE SERVICES PROVIDED:
1. Advocacy:
Providing skills and encouragement necessary so that
the persons with or without disabilities can advocate
on their own behalf and pursue systems advocacy to help
make the necessary changes that will increase equality for
the disability community.
2. Independent Living Skills:
Teaching people with disabilities ways to develop
necessary skills to take control of their own lives
and promote their participation in community activities.
Classes will include:
*Self-esteem and awareness
*Communication Skills
*Assertiveness
*Housing
*Personal Protection
Other classes are available
3. Peer Counseling:
Coordinating people who will be a role model, a mentor,
and provide peer support for individuals with disabilities,
including their family and friends.
Peer Supporters will:
*listen to you
*inform you of what your options are
*offer you the benefit of their experience
4. Information & Referral:
We provide a database and collection of literature
on resources to enhance the awareness about disability
related services, resources, and issues for businesses,
people with disabilities, and the community as a whole.
Information can be assessed on such topics as:
*Community Based Organization
*Federal and State Service Providers
*Employment
*Consumer organizations / support groups
*Information on medical equipment, ramp design and much more.
Referrals to outside sources to assist with your needs for:
*Housing & Equipment
*Medical Services
*Financial Information
*Travel Accommodations
*Information on disabilities or any other need
